The Crucible was one of the most ascertained books of all times. It had many different plots, and showed how vulgar and meager society really was. John Proctor was the main character of the story. He was accosted many times by a girl in the town named Abigail. From there, Abby blamed witchcraft and voodoo on anyone that she saw fit to. But John Proctor knew the truth. After confronting Abby many times, she finally blamed witchcraft on his wife. Saying that his wife was making a voodoo doll and poking it with a needle. And that the voodoo doll was a representation of her. Mrs. Proctor did no such thing, but Abby convinced the whole town. So then John Proctor went out and basically proclaimed his witchcraft to the town to show them how foolish this is. He ended up dieing in the end because he did not want to give his name up, because that was the only thing that he had left. There are many twists and turns in the story, but the main idea is that honesty can be more deadly then a lie. John Proctor died believing that his death would change things. Even after Abby had left and went off with one of her girl friends, the courts and officials did not believe him. But after he died they ended up stopping the trials and many people lost their jobs. And that is the synopsis of “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. It is a good read and is quite short. But it is still interesting.
