I have lived a very hard life so far, being an overweight, homosexual female. Currently I am a senior in high school and I am eighteen years old. I discovered my true sexuality at the age of sixteen. At first I did not want to believe it, but then realized I could not live my life as a lie. It was not until last year that I decided to tell my parents and friends. Most of my friends seemed accepting of my feelings, and others were freaked out. This allowed me to see who my true friends really were. Now I do not have many friends, but I do not need people in my life who refuse to accept the real me. My parents on the other hand, did not believe me at first.

They soon realized I was serious about being a lesbian, and they took me to counseling. They ignored me for some time, having no interest in what was going on in my life. Now they talk to me but they do not at all approve of my sexuality. I could never bring home a girlfriend, or they might disown me. Now much of my life has to be kept a secret from them.

My parents recently got seperated. This was very hard for me, and I blame their seperation on myself. I do have a girlfriend that I met in school, but we could never walk down the hallways together without getting some sort of criticism or harassment. I am not only made fun of constantly for being a lesbian, but also for being fat. I have tried many diets throughout my life, but none have ever been sucessful. In physical education, I especially get laughed at for being so out of shape. I sometimes believe I eat so much because of the stress in my life. I feel good when I eat, even though I hate being fat. I do go to church when I am stressed too. I recently became a very religious Christian, hoping that it would help me out with my life. I greatly enjoy participating in youth groups. Going to church does make me appreciate life a little more.

I believe that one of the only good things about me is that I try to be very nice to everyone, although some people make it very hard for me. I also get good grades and try my best in school. I am a singer, so I will be going to college next year to start my education, and hopefully become a professional singer one day. Then, all of my classmates will see that a girl can still be successful, even if she is a little bit different from everyone else.

The Old Man and the Sea (paper 1)

This is a story about a man who loved fishing, the sea and life itself. His name was Santiago. Santiago was an old fisherman. He loves to fish and has fished for many years but for the past 84 days he has caught nothing. The other fishermen are beginning to laugh and put him down and say he is not lucky because of this dry spell. “…Many of the fishermen made fun of the old man…” (Hemingway)

Santiago had one friend who stuck by him, no matter what, his name was Manolin.

Manolin was a young local boy who helped Santiago on the boat. But because of Santiago not catching any fish for so long, Manolin’s father said Manolin couldn’t help Santiago any more on the boat.

This made Manolin upset, but he still came around in the evening and helped care for Santiago. They played sort of a game. Every evening, Manolin would ask, “What do you have to eat?” “A pot of yellow rice with fish. Do you want some?” “No, I will eat at home. Do you want me to make a fire?” the boy asked. Santiago replied, “No I will make it later on. Or I may eat the rice cold.” “May I take the cast net?” asked Manolin “Of course.” replied Santiago. Manolin knew full well that they had sold the cast net and that there was no pot of rice.

Santiago would then take out his newspaper and read about baseball and think about his favorite player, Joe DiMaggio. He was always optimistic about the outcome of the games.

The next morning, Santiago sets out in the boat to find his big catch. He finds the Marlin feeding on a school of fish and sets his line with bait. He waits. He then felt a tug on the line and the Marlin takes the bait. The Marlin puts up a fight and starts towing the boat out further to sea. The marlin towed the boat for several days before it grew tired.

Santiago talked to the great fish. He said, “Fish…I love you and respect you very much but I will kill you before this day ends.” (Hemingway) Even though he felt this great respect for this fish, he still knew that business was business and that he would have to kill the fish and sell the meat. He knew it would bring a good price.

Santiago began to pray and said the Hail Mary prayer over and over. Santiago wished the boy were there to help him as well as to experience this great adventure. Santiago caught a fish to eat, rebaited the line and settled down for the night. The marlin was still attached to the line and pulling the boat but at a slower pace. “He is tired or he’s resting.” (Hemingway)

In time, the marlin began to tire out and the old man pulled the skiff beside the Marlin. He couldn’t believe the size of the Marlin. When he had killed it he set sail for home. It is during this time that the dead marlin was attached by several sharks, until all that is left of the prize catch is the head, tail, and a white skeleton. Santiago was exhausted and went to lie down in his shack. Manolin found him asleep in the shack and knew he must have been exhausted so he went to get the old man some coffee and newspapers and instructed others not to bother him.

When Santiago woke up, he told Manolin how he’d wished he’d been there with him. Manolin made plans to become his apprentice and let Santiago teach all he knew about fishing, baseball and the great Joe DiMaggio.

Baseball and the Marlin (paper 2)

Santiago’s love of baseball and the admiration of his hero, Joe DiMaggio were what got him through the battle with the Marlin. Baseball represents a sport of physical endurance, much like fishing for the marlin took physical endurance. For the old man was in pain when he was trying to hang on to the rope. His hand cramped up on him. “God help me to have the cramp gone.” (Hemingway)

He loved baseball and everyday he would get whatever newspapers he could and read the sports section to see who was playing, both winning and losing teams. “The Yankees cannot lose. But I fear the Indians of Cleveland. Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the Great DiMaggio.”(Hemingway) He wondered what the great Joe DiMaggio would do in each situation he faced. He knew that DiMaggio would not give up on a challenge and this gave Santiago the strength to endure this long battle with the Marlin. “Do you believe the great DiMaggio would stay with a fish as long as I will stay with this one?” (Hemingway)

The marlin represented a great challenge to pull in because he was so heavy. “he felt something hard and unbelieveably heavy.” (Hemingway) If caught, it would mean the end of a dry spell of no fish. Santiago respects the marlin, and wished he didn’t have to kill him. Santiago knew the marlin could bring in a good amount of money. He also thought about the people who would benefit from buying the fresh meat, they would have plenty to eat..

After several shark attacks on the way home, the marlin is reduced to nothing but a head, tail, and skeleton. Santiago had dreams of making money, at first; from the sale of the meat but these dreams were quickly dashed, as there was nothing left. “Eat that galanos. And make a dream you’ve killed a man.” (Hemingway) Santiago felt beaten by the fish. The other fishermen looked at the skeleton and measured it. The think it is the longest fish they have ever seen at eighteen feet long. “He was eighteen feet from nose to tail.” (Hemingway)
They begin to respect the old man once again, and don’t doubt him anymore.

Our current laws and allocation of responsibility is not clear regarding the boundaries and intervention of government in certain situations. This is particularly true in regard to ethical individual choices such as physician assisted suicide or euthenasia.Although the Supreme Court has addressed an individual set of circumstances in the court decision of Cruzan vs. Harmon.

The issues of physician assisted suicide as well as active and passive euthansia have been debated for many years.this paper focuses on some of these topics and seeks to determine a resolution after significant discussion as formulated from research of the topic.

Specifically, the social paradigm of the conflicting perspectives and the manner in which they may be interpreted is considered. However the argument of an individuals inherent right to live or die is limited by his or hers right to be born as it also involves the pros and cons of abortion which can not be additionally addressed in this paper. Thus the following discussion is limited to the state or federal governments right to interfere with a person of advanced ages right to take his or her own life.

It should be initially noted that the major issue regarding euthenasia relates to the subjective decision of when is an individual terminally ill ( his projected time and quality of life remaining) or simply committing suicide with the assistance of a physician. Is it murder or not regardless of the manner in which it is committed?

If it is legal to terminate life at birth is it also legal to terminate life at any other stage of life?

People look up to the famous philosophers like Confucius, Boyle and Aristotle. Yet, unaware that they, themselves are philosophers! I believe these famous philosophers gained wisdom through constant reflection. They have procured intellect and understanding because they have practiced reflecting on themselves, knew themselves whole heartedly until they have widen their understanding to others. Philosophical reflection is a type of reflection based on philosophy. Philosophy is defined as love, study or pursuit of wisdom, truth, or knowledge. Philosophical reflection, therefore, is the thinking with the heart geared towards the pursuit of wisdom. In doing so, one’s outlook in life will gain prudence. The process of reflection is more complex than mere thinking, there’s a difference between reflecting and thinking. He or she has to stand above the rational mind to think over the rational mind. In order to analyze the mind, one must necessarily transcend the boundary of the mind, otherwise, it is not possible to say something meaningful about the reflected matter. Reflection, however, always presupposes a standpoint outside of the reflected matter. There is what we call inductive and deductive reflections. Inductive is a reflection wherein one starts from a personal experience to a general matter and deductive reflection, which I consider better, begins from a concept and continues on to a very personal level. Philosophical reflection is done by first freeing his or her mind from any other concerns. Concentration is needed. Then, he or she points out a certain issue and recall past experiences. Carefully examine what events led to another and he or she must not forget to ask the questions 'why?' and 'how?', he or she then must make some realization why such things happen. After some discernment, a solution is attained. Lastly, that solution is not intended to be kept as a thought, it should be made into action. Philosophical reflection is reflecting on a matter, understanding and resolving it at the same time, acquiring knowledge from it.

Christian Morals in 'Beowulf'

Beowulf is an epic tale that has been changed over time to try and express a christian moral. While this transformation over time has added a new variable to the plot, it is still impossible to try and erase the original pagan plot completely. It has become evident that the original epic was pagan and had no mention of the biblical references or the christian morality that it contains now. However, it is also evident that the original story dealt with the concept of a higher being or beings.

The overriding christian view has many facets and deals with them all as a new way of proposing christianity into the theme of the story. The reason that Grendel becomes outraged is that the bard in the mead hall is singing a song that has to do with creation. This shows Grendels apparent disregard for God and he proceeds to go to the hall and capture men and eat them while they are asleep. As we progress into the story, we learn that Grendel carries the curse of Cain with him. He bore the curse of the seed of Cain/ Whereby God punished the grievous guilt of Abels murder. Cain was the son of Adam and Eve and was the one who murdered Abel, his brother, out of a jealous rage for Gods favor to Abel. This shows us that Grendel had more than just a dislike for the men, the song was showing Grendel that his ancestor was looked upon as the bad person and was therefore the underlying concept for Grendels rage. This was the constant reminder to Grendel of his evil past and thus his reasoning for his actions. We learn to see Grendel as a less than human being, but in actuality, he is a monster who has a degree of humanity in him and that is the reason that he is so hard for Beowulf to kill. He has the human emotion of pride which ultimately is the cause of his downfall. While this seems to be a major part of the story line, it can be removed and the story will only lose the background of Grendels evil side. This could have been where the real story of Grendel originally was.

As with many of the classic medieval stories there is a sense of a higher being and fate is a major factor in Beowulf. Had fate but granted, born of my body/ An heir to follow me after Im gone. Fate is the factor that leads to the explanation of Beowulfs death, and fate is also the reason that Beowulf cannot pass his sword and shield on to his nonexistent son. Fate plays a major role in the story and is related to the comitatus of the story. Beowulfs life ends because of the curse on the dragons gold and causes the death of his family line. Although Beowulf tries to rationalize his greed for the gold as a way to better his people, his true feeling is that of gold and because of his past experiences and victories, he feels that he is immortal. He feels this way because he has lived through the toughest battles of all men and is thought to be the greatest warrior alive by all people.

In conclusion, we are shown that without the christian morals throughout Beowulf, the story would seem incomplete, however, we will never know exactly what the original author lost over time as the christian morals were implanted into the story.

It is also evident that because of the pagan occurrences in the story that the story was one of pagan origin and is now a story of christian origin.

Abortions are a controversial issue, in the political world as well as the general public. It is a subject that touches many kinds of people, teenagers (both male and female), adoption agencies, couples of all ages, and also the medics who perform the operation. One third of all pregnancies in the United States end in abortion. Can abortion truly be seen as killing an innocent child? One case in which abortions are needed is in teenage pregnancies.

Controversy of Abortions
The topic of abortion is one of the most controversial and sensitive for the society and myself. The debates and confrontations between two opposite groups of opinion are long and sometimes even brutal. Both sides have strong supporting arguments pro-lifers base on moral principals, which is life before birth, while pro-choicers defend political and social rights, such as right to privacy and right of choice. Neither side can be absolutely right or wrong.

This group was called pro-choice. “Is abortion the taking of a human life?

For many people, the central issue in the abortion debate focuses on one question Is abortion the taking of a human life? In this paper I will be discussing the secular and Christian perspective of this issue as well as my own. There are two sides of the abortion issue. One side calls itself pro-choice . They believe it is a woman s hu8man right to decide when and whether to have a child. The other side calls itself pro-life or right to life . They believe that a fetus s right to live comes

Conclusion
Ultimately, it’s important for a woman to have an informed choice about her life and the life of her unborn child. I believe it’s a woman’s right to choose because a child who will not be provided with a healthy lifestyle shouldn’t be brought into the world.

The three most significant problems we face as a nation in the next fifty years are pollution, gun control, and terrorism.

Pollution

Much of the worlds air, water, and land is now partially poisoned by chemical wastes. Some places have become uninhabitable. This pollution exposes people all around the United States to new risks from disease. Many species of plants and animals have become endangered or are now extinct. As a result of these developments, our government has passed laws to limit or reverse the threat of environmental pollution.

Factories and transportation depend on huge amounts of fuel. Millions of tons of coal and oil are consumed in the United States every year. When these fuels burn, they introduce smoke and other less visible by-products into the atmosphere. Although wind and rain occasionally wash away the smoke given off by power plants and automobiles, the cumulative effect of air pollution poses a grave threat to humans and the environment.

Air pollution has been the target of some of the most complicated and far-reaching legislation ever enacted. In 1970, the United States Congress passed legislation aimed at curbing sources of air pollution and setting standards for air quality. A few years later, Congress passed laws designed to phase out the use of lead as an additive in gasoline. Since 1975, the level of lead in the average Americans bloodstream has declined.

Gun Control

The United States moved to restrict the purchase and use of firearms. This movement was caused by rising crime rates involving handguns and automatic weapons. The statistics show that the U.S. rates of gun ownership and gun-related deaths outnumber those of every other nation; in early 1990s. This movement focused on banning automatic weapons and prohibiting persons with criminal records from purchasing firearms. This movement was generally opposed by the wealthy and politically powerful National Rifle Association. Opponents claimed any such control was infringement of their constitutional rights. Advocates claimed that restrictions were necessary to curb escalating violence. Even though laws have been toughened to disallow certain individuals to obtain guns, there are still many ways to illegally buy guns through black market entities.

Terrorism

Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve political goals. It has long been an instrument of repression by governments as well as a tool of revolutionaries trying to overthrow governments.

Political murder is as old as politics, but to understand modern terrorism it is necessary to understand the political and social climate of the 1960s. A generation had grown up with no memory of World War II, and in the United States, Western Europe, and Japan, many of this generation were in college. In the United States social protest was a common result of the civil-rights movement. College-age young people became conscious of many social and economic wrongs.

The World Trade Center, complex of seven commercial buildings in New York City, was demolished by a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. The best-known buildings of the World Trade Center were twin skyscrapers designed by American architect Minoru Yamasaki with the firm Emery Roth and Sons. These 110-story towers were built in lower Manhattan from 166 to 175 and quickly became a distinctive feature of the New York City skyline and a symbol of the city’s financial power. On the morning of September 11 two hijacked Boeing 767 commercial jetliners flew into the towers. The airplanes were almost fully fueled, and the intense heat generated by the burning fuel melted the buildings’ steel supporting beams. The south tower stood for about 1 hour after the crash; the north tower for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. They then collapsed, floor upon floor, the added weight of each concrete floor causing floors beneath to collapse. Tenants and visitors left the buildings by stairways, but not everyone was able to escape. Nearly ,1000 people died or were presumed dead as a result of the terrorist attack, including hundreds of firefighters and police who had arrived to help. The buildings had been designed to withstand a collision from a jet plane, and they had survived a terrorist bomb attack in 2001. But they could not withstand the heat of the burning fuel. All seven buildings in the complex collapsed during the disaster.

Al-Qaeda was responsible for the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac River from the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C. That day, 1 terrorists hijacked four passenger aircraft soon after they took off from airports in Boston, Massachusetts; Newark, New Jersey; and Washington, D.C.

Chaucer’s early poems, such as The Parliament of Fowls, The House of Fame and The Legend of Good Women, repeatedly stage moments of significant reading; the narrator reads himself to sleep and then experiences a dream vision, for instance, or comments upon the way his own reading has conditioned his interpretation and representation of the world around him. Similarly, the Trojan War epic Troilus and Criseyde is both self-conscious concerning its own status in a literate tradition (as a “rereading” of Boccaccio and the mythical Lollius) and original in its representation of characters formed and perhaps deformed by their own practices of reading and writing. This course aims to explore these “older books” of Chaucer’s with a particular awareness of issues surrounding the representation of reading and writing at this seminal moment in the creation of an English literary consciousness. If youve read this far youve figured out that this isnt an essay, its a course description. You shouldnt be downloading essays from the internet anyway. If you do, your professors will certainly catch you. By anchoring itself in a particular moment in history (albeit one with curiously unstable limiting dates) this course proposes to explore the boundaries between history and literature. The century, when England and France were at war with each other, is also the century which witnessed the transformation of the English vernacular, the “mother tongue”, into a literary language. This course brings together texts in both French and English, on different subjects, in different genres, to explore the formation of English literary culture in this period. We will read French courtly poetry, English lyrics by authors like Chaucer who were inspired by French models, and English poems of the so-called “alliterative revival” which seem to lay claim to a sort of “native” authenticity. We will consider what makes some of the great spiritual writings of the period (texts by Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe) characteristically English, and we will try to recover some sense of what Middle English pop culture might have consisted of by reading dramas and popular lyric, and by listening to fourteenth century music. We will consider several longer narrative works (the Alliterative Morte Arthur, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Parliament of Fowls) to see how they work to create a sense of self-conscious national identity. Finally, we will read accounts of the war itself and its major participants, from Froissart’s Chronicles to Christine de Pisan’s Poem of Joan of Arc, in order to determine the ways in which a century of constant military conflict created both national identity and literary culture on both sides of the channel.

The Scarlet Letter is a book of much symbolism. One of the most complex and misunderstood symbols in the book is Pearl, the daughter of Hester Prynne. Pearl, throughout the story, develops into a dynamic symbol - one that is always changing. In the following essay, I will explore some of the symbolism which Pearl came to represent throughout the novel.

In 'The Scarlet Letter', Hester, for her sins, received a scarlet letter, A which she had to wear upon her chest. This was the Puritan way of treating her as a criminal, for the crime of adultery. The Puritan treatment continued, because as Hester would walk through the streets, she would be looked down upon as if she were some sort of demon from Hell, that committed a terrible crime. This would give her much mental anguish and grief. On the other hand, Gods treatment of Hester for her sin was quite different than just a physical token he gave Hester the punishment of a very unique child which she named Pearl. This punishment handed down from God was a constant mental and physical reminder to Hester of what she had done wrong, and she could not escape it. In this aspect, Pearl symbolized Gods way of punishing Hester for adultery.

The way Hester's life was ruined for so long was the ultimate price that Hester paid for Pearl. With Pearl, Hesters life was one almost never filled with joy, but instead a constant nagging. Pearl would harass her mother over the scarlet A which she wore. Pearl would also make her own A to wear, and sometimes she played games with her mothers, trying to hit it with rocks. When Hester would go into the town with Pearl, the other children would make fun of her, and Pearl would yell and throw dirt at them. So, in this case, Pearl symbolized the decimation of Hesters life and mental state.

Although Hester had so much trouble with Pearl, she still felt that Pearl was her treasure. Pearl was really the only thing that Hester had in life, and if Pearl wasnt in Hesters life, Hester would almost surely have committed suicide. Once and a while, Pearl would bring joy to Hesters life, and that helped her to keep on living. Pearl really symbolized a rose to her mother, at some times she could be bright and vibrant, and really love her mother, but at other times, she could be wilting. It was at these times when she was wilting that brought Hester the most grief.

One final way in which Pearl symbolized something in the novel was with her association with the scarlet letter. Pearl really was the scarlet letter, because if Pearl had never been born, Hester would have never been found guilty of adultery, and thus never would have had to wear that burden upon her chest. Without that burden, Hester would have led a much better life then the one she had throughout the novel.

In closing, Pearl was a source of many different kinds of symbolism. From being a rose, to representing the scarlet letter A, she was a kind of burden, yet love for Hester. And as a final note, Pearl was more then her mothers only treasure; she was her mothers only source of survival.

A scaffold is a place where sinners go to relieve their guilt. Many also had to endure public humiliation. It took a lot of courage for someone to admit their sins and stand in front of a judgmental public. Often times, they were looked down upon and not well liked by many in their Puritan society. In the novel, The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scaffold scenes are immensely important to the book. We are introduced to all of the main characters and we see how they change from the first scaffold scene to the last, and how each of the scaffold scenes are significant.

During the first scaffold scene, it introduces the main character, Hester Prynne, her symbols of her sin, and is just beginning to show us just how strong of a character she really is. The symbols of her sin are her scarlet letter “A” and her daughter, Pearl. Hester has committed the crime of adultery and her punishment is that she has to wear an embroidered, scarlet “A” on her clothing. Hester has to stand on the scaffold for three hours with the public staring and talking about her. She undergoes harsh criticism by the public, especially the jealous women. One woman said, “At the very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne’s forehead.” Just by this sentence, you can understand the feeling these women have toward Hester. While she was undergoing this harsh criticism she thought back to her previous life in England, which helped her not to give in. Arthur Dimmesdale is her pastor and the father of Pearl, which we haven’t heard of yet. He stands upon the scaffold, not to admit his own guilt, but as her priest trying to defend a member of his congregation. We also hear of the “misshapen scholar” who is Hesters husband, Roger Chillingworth, which is the character who represents evil in this book.

While all of the principle characters are here again, during this second scaffold scene, there is a feeling of togetherness among Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale. The difference between this scene and the first one is that Dimmesdale is holding hands with Pearl and Hester and acknowledging them unlike the first time. Even though there isn’t a crowd, Dimmesdale cries out very loudly, and Mr. Wilson, another minister, is the only other person who hears him. He wants to admit to the public of his sin but he is too afraid of what they will think because he is not as strong as Hester is. Pearl asks Mr. Dimmesdale if he will join Hester and her there at noontide but he says that they will meet on the judgment day instead of in daylight. Then, all of sudden, a bright meteor burns through the sky and a red lighted “A” appears. This is but one of the transformations of the scarlet letter “A”. While all of this is happening, Pearl is pointing to Chillingworth, who is looking up at them with a devilish grin.

This is the final scaffold scene and Dimmesdale regains his soul by confessing. The main characters are here again but this time he confesses about his scarlet letter. Over the past few years, his health was slowly getting worse and worse while he was under the care of the evil physician, Chillingworth. After seven long years, the pain inside him had built up so much that he felt like he had to confess to the public before he died. Even though people looked down upon him for keeping this secret for so long, he was very relieved to finally come clean. Dimmesdale confessed not only for himself but also for the sake of Hester and Pearl. He finally escapes the evil of Chillingworth, who without his victim, shrivels up and dies. This shows the end of evil on earth. Dimmesdale leaves his fate up to God to decide if he will go to heaven or not. Pearl finally kisses Dimmesdale and accepts him as her father. This symbolizes that everything will be all right for her and that she will lead a normal life even though she was an abnormal child.

In conclusion, the scaffold scenes are a very important, contributing part to the book because they show what happens to the sinners and how it changed from the first to the last scene. In the first scaffold scene, Hester is all alone holding Pearl without Dimmesdale acknowledging them. However, in the second scaffold scene Dimmesdale holds hands in hope to someday be with them forever in another life. Dimmesdale regains his soul and everyone’s problems seem to be solved in this last scene. Mr.Chillingworth, who represents evil in this book, dies because Dimmesdale overcomes his evil, which was committing the sin with Hester and keeping it to himself. The scaffold was an important place because sinners went there to relieve their guilt and often times had to endure public humiliation. No matter the reason sinners went there, the scaffold helped them overcome their sins.

The Heartless Neighbor

Hello, my name is Fred, and I live at 145 Evergreen Terrace, in a small little, remote suburb. I have a cozy little home, as well as a giant wrap around wood porch. The home has a beautiful four post framework. Here the nights are always quiet after 0 p.m., as the days are. However, every afternoon around a ruckus is brought about. Hooting and hollering overwhelm my household. This has been driving my insane for days, months, and years now.

Some people hate their neighbors while others do not. But, I will tell you, I am neither. I just need to set some ground rules for my heartless neighbor. He is a rude and cruel little thing. He has eyes squinty and black like the devil. His dark brown hair reminds me of the aftermath of a horrific fire. He stands twice as tall as me, he is about four feet tall. He is boney and lanky like a slinky. Oh my goodness and he is always so filthy. His face is consistently covered in dirt and food. His hair is so greasy and muddled. The boy acts as evil and horrible as he looks. Let me prove my point.

You see, the boy comes home in the afternoon and proves his devil ness each time. He has no respect for his floor neighbor, me. He runs in the gate; throws his bag of books at my home. After that I seem him out of my window sitting on the ground playing with little green men. Then, he throws them and spreads them across my yard, like cotton tree furs. Soon he is onto his next venture with a ball. He bounces it against my house and all around the perimeter of my door. Sure, most people wood try to ignore this, but I just cannot. The ball has got to be two feet in diameter and with every bounce it gives off almost a ring. And with each bounce past my window I can not help but to look because it is a hideous orange, almost like Chevy Orange. The unvarying clunk, cLunK, CLUNK drives me up the wall. Shortly, there after, he leaves for a while and then returns with all the more energy. He viscously swings the gate open and then slams it closed. He then runs up to his level and begins to jump around erratically. With each solitary move I feel my ceiling slowly collapsing on my head. The creaking a thumping could drive a sane creature like me mad; after all he carries on for hours at a time, as if there were some sort of trampoline or springed area for my overhead.

Then when he is bored with that he sits and watches his box of pictures for a few more hours of the day. No, he cannot just watch it calmly or tranquilly, but at levels of unworldly volumes. He plays it so loudly and clearly that I hear every word and have ‘I love you, you love me’ in my head. All this in one day would not be enough, oh no, he then pushes his toy truck in and out of my house, through my windows and door. This distracts me and my setting. The boy just doesn’t seem to notice.

This is just a slight taste of the boy’s deviant behavior. Right now I am fed up and sick of it. I cannot bare it for another night. Tonight I will step on to my front porch and give him a piece of my mind.

As the time approaches I prepare. I put on my best and comb my fur. I looked in the mirror and was amazed. Who else has little, squinty orange eyes, and a bright green coat to match? I grin to have a glance at my perfectly tarnished, jagged and sharp teeth. Then I look at my manicure of thick, long, yellow, and pointy nails. I check my hand, incase I must introduce myself, dazzling hands of hide. Damn, I look good. The time was here, it had come sooner than I thought it would.

Suddenly, the gate swung open and the boy, accompanied by as taller person, was carried into the room screaming and kicking. As the tall person closed the gate the beam of light that had appeared behind them disappeared and all that was left was the soft glow of a light on the outer wall of my property. It is time, it is now or never, I thought to myself.

I began to tip-toe out of my door and around the perimeter of the house. I paused to look around, for I had never seen this much out of home. There were buildings that looked like book shelves, and towers that looked like dressers. I was amazed, it looked like my room. I quickly get back on track and continue to the boy. I gently tap him on the shoulder, he does not move so I hastily tug on his shoulder. He quickly and skittishly rolls over and jumps back. He gawks with his mouth hanging open, I reach my hand out and he begins to stutter. I attempt to speak and he jitters. Finally I muster up my voice, “hello, my name is Fred, and I live underneath you.” He jumped up and began to make his way to the gate, never turning his back to me. He reaches for the knob and runs. He is screaming and crying. I hear him burst another gate open and he shouts, “ma, ma, MONSTER….. I ain’t never going back”.

You know I did not quite understand what he meant by monster, but oh well. Since that night my home has been peaceful and the boy has not even come back. I was not mean or harsh to him. I was barely even able to get my name out. You know, the only time I even see him anymore is when it is dark. He lifts the curtains, pokes his head underneath, and I wave. However, for some weird reason he runs out of the gate every time.

My motivation to study law extends further than my basic interest in the subject. For me law is both innovative and exciting and a profession which offers unlimited boundaries. I have thoroughly enjoyed the academic study of law because I find learning about how the English Legal system works both intriguing and fascinating. I have chosen a degree that will enable me to pursue my interest in law in greater depth and pursue a career in the subject. I have attended a number of courts and have listened to cases that have been brought forward which have broadened my knowledge.

Law changed from being a hobby when I completed my work experience in a law firm (Clifford chance). This enabled me to experience the field of work in law and communication skills as well as witnessing the practicableship application of everyday cases also.

In addition, I have visited the Four Inns of court, which helped me to confirm my interests in the subject. I believe I’m well suited to a degree in law since the success in my school studies has given me a secure academic foundation, which has enabled me to approach this course with confidence and enthusiasm.

My current work experience as a customer service officer in National Westminster Bank has taught me to learn new skills. Working either independently or in a team allowed my to develop communication and interactive skills with the customers and my team. I learnt how to listen carefully to others and their instructions and also learnt to explain and solve their problems. I have also received a customer service award for excellent customer services.

Becoming a communications prefect in the sixth form has provided me with opportunity to represent others and to become a voice for the people. I am able to extend my communications skills by writing a newsletter fortnightly to be delivered to the school. This experience should enable me to communicate effectively in an academic environment whilst I’m at university.

In addition, I have received various awards throughout my school career such as Head teachers commendation for diligence in law, punctuality and attendance awards also. This illustrates that I have self-discipline. I am also good at public speaking for example, I was the nominated speaker to speak to the mayor of London at the London schools Greater London Authority convention about the current affairs affecting London.

I intend to seize any available opportunity to take an active part in mock courtroom debates during university life. To show my dedication to law, I attend law as a twilight course after school hours to learn more about the English and European legal system.

I would describe myself as an active person outside of school as I regularly attend church where I am a youth leader and I was learning mime (sign language to music and performing for a large audience) and doing missionary work. I am able to organise my time to both school and extra-curricular activities. I believe I’m a suitable candidate to be chosen for this course since I’m a good communicator to others, a confident speaker, good negotiator, assertive, independent, open-minded and I work well in a team.

I have many interests outside of school; I enjoy visiting the Old Bailey to hear cases once every two months, this has given me an opportunity to gain a broader knowledge in how the English legal system is run. I thoroughly enjoy listening to music and going to the theatre to watch performances.

I like to express my emotions through dancing since I believe that self-expression is important and I also like to keep myself fit by going to the gym fortnightly. Dancing and going to the gym has provided me with an opportunity to keep fit.

I am looking forward to building on my existing experiences of studying law and it will give me a chance to further my knowledge in the English Legal system.

The Shark Net

In his memoir; The Shark Net, Robert Drewe reflects on his journey from childhood to adulthood in Perth. Revealing both the darker and lighter manner of life, including homicide, fear, hypocrisy, family reputation and class distinction. These are the main themes in his memoir, Drewe expresses the themes through clever use of symbols and vocabulary.

Drewe establishes his major themes of murder, evil and impending danger, in the frontispiece and the prologue. Quotation from both Brecht and Ionesco produce a sinister tone, especially the song ‘Mac the knife’, which almost foreshadows the numerous murders featured in the book. Ionesco’s quote is from the theatre of the absurd, which stresses the absurdity of bourgeoisie or in this case the values of the middle class, and the life style they lead, this connects to the theme of class distinction and hypocrisy. The quote ‘You can only predict things after they have happened’ may be seen as a summary of the book, throughout the book there are many unseen dangers which were never released until it was too late.

All through his memoir, Drewe is troubled by guilt. As a little boy stealing comics with his friends. His guilt is evident when he recollects the incident at the Billy Graham crusade on pg. 168 ‘His [Billy] own eyes, as sharp and goggling as Bette Davis’s…snapped around the showground, instantly found mine, as I’d feared they would, and bored right into my evil teenage soul’. Later in life Drewe feels guilty for his mother’s death, which he is not responsible for. This feeling is aroused by the family doctor suggesting that Drewe may have been a cause of his beloved mother’s death. From the start of the book, we learn of Drewe’s guilt for winking back at Cooke at the committal trail

And there was another thing something pretty horrible; part of me had also responded to recognition from a celebrity-even from the worst type of celebrity.

Drewe’s feeling is in stark contrast to that of Cooke, who feels no guilt or remorse for the murders.

Drewe also tackles underlying social issues, which also contribute to the themes. Coming from a middle class family, Drewe draws upon his experience and exposes the darker side of middle class society like hypocrisy, double standards and the importance of maintaining good social standing. Drewe’s parents are willing to forsake their emotions and relationships in order to establish and maintain a good reputation in Perth. Royce especially values his job at Dunlop above all things, including his family, he, himself proudly admits it by saying ‘…Dunlop will always com first…’ The family’s life is dominated by Dunlop, Drewe as a boy was surrounded by Dunlop products. Royce’s commitment to Dunlop is show at Dot’s funeral that was not attended by any of Dot’s friends or any other family member other than Drewe, his brother and Royce. Royce sees the funeral of his wife as just ‘men’s business, and businessmen’s business at that’. It is quite sad that the most intimate service is turned into yet just another Sunday morning business appointment.

Drewe discovers the meaning of double standard and middle class mentality when Ruth fell pregnant and Drewe response is to marry her. His mother, Dot is mortified and ashamed of her son and candidly expresses her anger, ‘you know you have ruined your lives. You have wrecked this family’. Dot believes that pregnancy before marriage is almost a mortal sin in the 50’s and 60’s. To keep their good reputation Dot and Roy send Ruth and Robert to Waterman’s Bay on the outskirts of Perth to spare the family from humiliation. Dot is also concerned about a mixed religions marriage, as Drewe is a Protestant and Ruth is a Catholic, she did not mention the fact that Royce and her are also of different religious persuasions, an example of double standards. Ironically Royce and Dot’s concern for repute cost them their marriage and their happiness.

Hypocrisy is a major theme of Drewe’s memoir. This theme is expressed through Royce, who seems to everyone else a hard working family man, he is considered a respected member of society with friends in high and influential positions, but to Drewe he is a hypocrite. At a young age Drewe admires his father, he sees him as an authority figure, his affection for his father is shown by the playful whistle exchange between him and his father every night. However as Drewe matures, he becomes aware of his father’s hypocritical beahviours a notable example is Royce’s subscription to the ‘mirror’. Drewe is quite puzzled and almost in denial that his father, who would edit out inappropriate pictures out of every magazine in the house, so his children, will not be badly influenced could be reading the mirror. On another occasion Drewe caught his father in a compromising position with Mrs. Gwen Halliday. As Drewe matures, he begins to uncover his father’s hypocritical personality, which eventually resulted in a very cold and distant relationship between them.

Drewe uses reoccurring symbols to reinforce the themes of impending danger and creates a sinister atmosphere. Throughout his life, Drewe have been fascinated and intrigued by sharks, as a child Drewe even captured a carpet shark as a sign of strength in an attempt to impress his love interest, Roberta. The shark is almost like a metaphor of Cooke, an unseen killer, who is ever present searching and waiting for its next prey. As a child Drewe has an incredible imagination, and he reflects upon his sometimes-ridiculous childhood fears. These fears included Leo the Lion, the house falling down and boiling brain, the violent past at the Fremantle Prison and Rottnest Island, these fears symbolizes underlying threat and menace in life, these threats and menace inflict fear in Drewe and the Perth community. This theme of menace is present throughout the book

Where else but the white sand could there be such prospects for pleasure and danger?’

While Drewe deals with some very serious subject matter, his style is often, light of heart, humorous and sometimes sarcastic. He uses humor in exploring his journey through adolescence, his recollection of his first kiss, his first love and his attempts to impress Roberta, are all examples of his innocence and his naïve perspective on life. Drewe also expresses humor through certain characters, situations and events, such as his parents or the middle class’s pretensions, hypocrisy and concern for reputation. One example of his use of humor, is his frustration at his father for giving him the same gift every Christmas, Dunlop bumpers.

My father and Dunlop couldn’t grasp the essential flaw in their belief that teenage boys aspired to the shoes of their father. Maybe even to the slippers of their grandfathers’.

Drewe deals with some very serious and morbid issues in his memoir, such as homicide, double standards, hypocrisy and the death of his mother. However he is able to balance this with his light-hearted account of his adolescent years. Through Drewe’s rites of passage, he learns of good and dark aspect of life. The shark net makes an entertaining and serious book about Drewe’s personal journey from childhood to adulthood in isolated Perth.

Relationships under pressure are the focus of Garry Disher's book, writes Laurie Clancy.

Early in Garry Dishers novel "The Divine Wind", the narrator says "You could say that this is a story about friendship, and the betrayal of friendship, and friendships lost and regained". The key word is "betrayal", because it is a novel that is about love as well as friendship and, above all, about loyalty.

Throughout the novel we are confronted with numerous examples of loyalty - Zekes sacrifice of his life to save Hartley, Hartleys father courageously taking Sadako and Mitsi into his house in defiance of the town, and later his defence of the Aboriginal stockman Derby Boxer. But in the end the novel seems to argue, rather dispiritedly, that if society is able to impose sufficient stress upon any relationship, then no matter how intense and no matter how wellmeaning the people involved are, it can be broken.

The novel opens in 1946, just after the war, in the northwestern Australian town of Broome, and then goes back to the events of previous years to account for the melancholic, almost foreboding tone in which Hartley tells the story. Though his language is extremely simple, Disher does a wonderful job of evoking the delight of growing up in a tropical town "mangoes and barramundi on the table, bamboo furniture, siestas, sundowners, pearl shell ashtrays, servants" - to say nothing of falling in love with a Japanese girl and regular visits to the pictures.

cheap essay writing service

There seems to be little real racial prejudice in the town, though there are subtle reminders of the past Sadako may have worked in a brothel when she first arrived in Broome and there are hints of illtreatment of the Aborigines. Saltwater Jack was "lured by force or slippery promises to work the luggers". His wife, Bernadette, was separated from her family when she was little and raised by the nuns, who instilled in her the conviction that she could never amount to anything more than a servant.

While the town is not under pressure, these hints of racial prejudice remain in the background. The Tampa had not arrived when Disher wrote his novel, but he shows himself to be a prescient observer in his recognition of the fragility of Australias racial tolerance and what is now called multiculturalism. Generally, it is an idyllic existence, except for Hartleys Englishborn mother, who reacts violently against the easygoing egalitarianism of the town and returns home. Ironically - and pointedly - it is the Englishborn person who cant fit where the Japanese can.

All this is due to change, of course, and what Disher now offers us is a slice of Australian history at a crucial time and its disruptive effect on the lives of a number of individuals.

Disher has always been intensely interested in Australian history and has written several books about it. In addition, he has dealt with it in his fiction. The stories in Approaches begin at the time of World War I. The Stencil Man first sounds the theme of detention for those deemed to be aliens in a time of war. The Bamboo Flute and The Sunken Road are set during the Depression.

Japans entry into the war and the possibility of the first invasion of the Australian mainland strike terror into the hearts of its citizens and destroy the veneer of harmony that had previously existed in the town. In the end, the male characters are either boorish, like Mr Kilian and Carl Venning, or weakly principled, whereas women like Alice and Mitsi are much stronger. Mitsi first rejects Hart (whose name seems rather ironical) when he fails to stand up to his mother over the issue of Derby Boxer. Alice does similarly with Carl when he joins in Major Morrisseys openly racist sentiments. In commenting on Carls treatment of the blacks, Hart can offer only negative praise that he wasn't worse "Carl didn't force his recalcitrant black stockmen to dress in women's clothing and do women's work, with the clear implication being that other bosses did.

In rejecting Carl, Alice is also refusing to follow in the trail of the downtrodden wives we mostly see in the novel, women like Mrs Kilian or the careworn but offensive Olive Webb. Harts loyalty to his friends is finite. He follows Jamie to see if he is having a rendezvous with Mitsi, just as earlier he discovers from notebooks his father had suspiciously followed his mother.

The courage they both display in standing up for Derby Boxer and later Mitsi and her mother slowly leaks away as the war goes on and in the end poisons the relationships of both the Penrose males with the two women. The intern camps become ironically the only places where they can be safe.

I have reservations about Dishers scrupulously sensitive narrative only when Hart turns on Mitsi, with whom he has been and perhaps still is deeply in love. Could outside pressures cause both Hart and his father to alter in such a drastic way, even after they have defied the town and invited them into their own house as permanent guests?

Disher clearly and sadly believes they can. Hart learns something about the darkest recesses of his own soul during those final scenes of Mitsi and her mother in the house, just as later he learns them again when he is momentarily tempted not to save Jamie.

At the end of the novel, Disher returns us to the "present of 146 and perhaps just a gleam of hope". After the rousing climax of the Japanese air raid and the rescue of some of the survivors, Mitsi and her mother are sent to a camp in Victoria but in yet another generous gesture, approved of by her mother, Mitsi writes to Hart and tells him she loves him.

They resume their friendship by correspondence, but what kind of friendship will it be? The novel ends ambiguously. The authorities have begun to release the internees. Last week it was Joe Suzuki, and as he stepped on to the jetty carrying all of his possessions in a duffle bag, the locals shout at him, just as they will shout at Mitsi. It wont be easy. We may not make it.

Background notes

Garry Disher's novel "The Divine Wind" is set against the backdrop of W.W.II and the impending threat of invasion by the Japanese.

The novel examines the relationships existant in the once comfortable and cosmopolitan Broome and racism and isolation against the background of war, threaten to destroy all understanding.

In many ways Broome was Wild West Country. The role of women was defined and understood by the men - and nothing else mattered. The role of Aboriginal Australians was equally clear - they were to be servants, stockmen and subordinates.

Walter Gretzky

 Family, Hockey and Healing

When we look back on his sixty-three years Walter has been on this planet; I can honestly say that I feels like he’s lived a thousand lifetimes. Not one, a thousand. All the different places he has been and things that have happened throughout his life. Here there all over the world. It’s wonderful to travel so much, have adventures with his good friends and meet such a wide variety of people-heads of state, native chiefs, Hollywood celebrities, and sports legends. But also most of his glory came by helping others and reaching towards them. “Reaching out to others often means having to get up in front of people and speak, something I used to do only if I couldn’t avoid it.”. Helping others through their hard times can be a very important thing. It shows others your personality and how much you care about them. Walter on the other hand was a tremendous person who not only helps his friends but also complete strangers through their rough times. Walter had met some remarkable people in his travels and made some great friends wherever he’s gone, but sometimes he exclaims “You don’t even have to leave your street to find special friends in this world. Take Daniel Eickmerier. I met him on Halloween night, about seven years ago. Daniel was eight years old at the time.” It is remarkable to have good close friends when you need them. It not only gives you the mental support but also the fact that there is someone out there who cares about you and that feeling alone is good enough for anyone.

Ode

Lucky is the man who never has been punished by the government’s power! Where once the animosity of the white house has struck, that mansion is shaken. Eternally Judgment comes up behind each American like a star shooting out of the dark galaxy. When the fast rushed star collides and burst drumming force upon the soiled earth. I have witnessed the building pain from wars long fought loom upon America’s people generation after generation takes the force of the enemy government. So lately this last form of the nation’s line drank the security! But now a holy force and a handful of clashes have closed up all its greatness. What mental arrogance attempts to best the president? Sense cannot stop him, nor the effortless long months of the great nations but he is young forever. And his ability is the shining day of the low world. All that is and all the past, is his. Nothing on earth is free from the curse of his ways. The drifting hopes of men may bring them mystery hope. But as they stop, the burning embers of motivation start them. Or they walked with eyes fixed on what they plan, as a salesmen looks to sell. But the wisdom of long past, be good to others, for goodness works most for the best, is long forgotten. Man's little belief is the ocean of sorrow.

Buddhism vs. Hinduism

If you order your custom term paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Buddhism vs. Hinduism. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Throughout the world there are a variety of different religions that vary greatly. Two of the largest religions in the world are Hinduism and Buddhism. Although these two religions are commonly thought of as being very closely related, almost the same religion, that belief is very wrong. These two religions do have some aspects of their religion in common, but also have very different ways of life, and vary greatly.

One of the greatest differences between Hinduism and Buddhism is that Buddhism doesn’t worship any supreme being, or God, while Hinduism does. Some Hindus believe in as many as 10 million variations of a single god, who rules everything. Unlike almost every major religion in the world, Buddhism doesn’t have a god who is worshipped by its followers. They don’t even have a religious doctrine that they follow.

Another large difference between the two world religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, is that Hinduism has religious writings which they follow, while Buddhism doesn’t. Hinduism follows the writings of the Vedas and of the Upanishads. These two religious doctrines form the basis of the religion. Buddhism doesn’t follow any particular writing. They don’t have a religious book, as in the Bible for Christians, the Torah for Jews, and the Qur’an for the Muslims. Buddhism doesn’t even seem to be a religion.

One more difference between Hinduism and Buddhism is that Buddhism isn’t so much a religion, but rather just a way of life. Buddhists try to live a life without sin, trying to reach enlightenment. Buddhists don’t follow any authoritative scriptures, don’t praise and worship any supreme being, and don’t have any restrictions to who can become a Buddhist. Everyone is accepted in Buddhism, they don’t believe in the Caste system. Hinduism acts as a religion because it has a supreme being that Hindus worship and praise, religious scriptures, and have common beliefs.

Another difference, although it may not be the biggest, is that Buddhism has a human who walked the earth whom they follow (Buddha), while Hinduism doesn’t. There is no special person whom Hindus follow who once walked the face of this earth. Many world religions do, like Jesus Christ for Christianity, Muhammad for Islam, and Buddha for Buddhism.

Although Buddhism and Hinduism are commonly believed to be very similar, they are very different as you now know. The two religions are two of the most populous religions in the world, and like all religions, have similarities and differences. The many differences include differences in teachings, in beliefs, origin, and in many other aspects.

Jeremy Atticus Finch

Even though Jem was only thirteen when he broke his arm that hasn’t bothered him as much as most things have now during his life. Things like Boo Radley and all the suspicions has him wondering. Racism also has Jem upset and makes him have a lot of opinions. Last thing is human behavior and that ties in with his maturity that he just goes through and thinks about. Throughout this book its obvious to see these things.

Jem has always wondered about Boo Radley. Even though it had all children in Maycomb wonder about him, Jem always had a feeling about how Boo really was. Jem was into Boo Radley so much he even went up to the house and touched it with his hand to show that he wasn’t afraid of him. Jem did this for a reason. Not only was it to just show off that he wasn’t scared of Boo, but Jem was dared to, Jem could never turn down a dare. This is showing how brave Jem was and that he wasn’t a dork. Another thing about his fascination with Boo is that when he saw all the things in the Radly tree he was amazed. Jem thought of it as someone just left them there for no one else to find. He showed a little maturity there. He let it go until a little while later and he figured it was there for them. Jem was very courteous about this. The last thing Jem does about Boo is saying how he should write him a letter, telling him thank you for the gifts in the tree. This shows how Jem really does care about other peoples feelings. It also shows how Jem is trying to be nice to Boo to be friendly, Jem was definitely the perfect person to make friends with. He was generous and trustworthy. Not only does Jem think about Boo, his real interests is in racism.

Racism was always a factor to Jem. He always didn’t under stand it, didn’t think it had a real purpose. As in the Tom Robinson trial Jem thought they were going to win the case, and Tom would be free. This shows that Jem really does know what he’s talking about. It makes him look as if one day he could be an attorney like his father because he thinks everything out clearly. Another thing is when tom Robinson was convicted guilty, Jem did not take it very well. He was furious. This shows that Jem has been brought up differently than all the other children in Maycomb. He doesn’t think of a skin color as a factor. He thinks things as he sees them. Jem knows when something is right and when something is not right at all. This makes Jem very grown-up like. The last thing that Jem does is that he doesn’t say racist comments and doesn’t mind going to a black church. Jem sees it as regular people. He doesn’t say anything bad about anyone and has a good clear mind. He is very polite and wouldn’t insult anyone who didn’t deserve it. Not only is Jem interested in racism, he has a fascination with human nature and you see how he matures.

Do my essay on To Kill a Mockingbird CHEAP !

Jem has always been putting thought into everything and human nature is something he definitely thinks about. When Jem witnessed the Tom Robinson trial he realized how people can change. This makes Jem look very good. It shows that Jem can think on his own and find the main points in which people change. And not just realize when they change but the reason for the change in someone. He also thought of human nature when he went to the black’s church. Seeing all the people looking at him and wondering why he was there. Jem knew they knew who he was and what he stood for. Jem was always very good at expressing himself and showing people what he believes in. The last thing that shows he knows human nature is that when he sees how people think of black and see how the whites are it makes him think. How the blacks are lower class and the whites are upper class. This is good for Jem because it may make things better in the future one kid at the time. Jems logic is that everyone is just a regular person an should be equal. But most people at that time were much more different and didn’t think as well as Jem did.

To end with, Jem is most definitely a class act. He has personality and humor. A lot goes with that in a person. Jem thinks about a lot of things, Boo Radley, racism, and human nature. That’s a lot to think about for a child. He has gone through a lot in his life and much more to come.

What Makes a Great Classroom

An ideal classroom is the result of many contributing factors; including the quality of the room, the school, and last but not least, the students home environment.

The condition of the classroom can mean a great deal. A classroom should be quiet and clean, thus creating a better working environment. Another aspect of the room is the quantity of supplies. It should have an abundant store of books and copies, guaranteeing that every student gets his or her own chance to learn and excel.

Another important factor that makes a major impact on the class’s quality is the school’s condition. A good school should give students many opportunities to take advanced courses. A school should also have small class sizes. These small classes would better enable teachers to evaluate the needs and knowledge of the students. An accelerated class pace would also serve as an additional plus in the school’s favor.

One of the most important things in any classroom is the teacher. The teacher should always refrain from becoming boring, since a boring classroom would only result in the students losing interest in the class. Another important point about the teacher is that a teacher should be familiar with the subject and about related topics. A teacher should also be well organized, since a well-organized class will result in a more efficient usage of time. Finally, a teacher should be fair and non-biased which would provide that every student is treated equally.

The most important factor in a classroom is the students. Because when they are faced with work, students make an active choice whether or no to do the work. Students should always try to be attentive and work hard. They should also work to participate in class discussions. Another important aspect is the student’s home environment. If the parents support the child’s intellectual work, then the child will be much more willing to work hard.

In conclusion, the ideal classroom is the culmination of many different factors. While each and every one of the factors I have mentioned are important, one will not create the perfect classroom overnight. They all have to be functioning together to create a truly great classroom.
